Good sound, a few rare gems, could have been better.
Having been a loyally spastic Nitzer Ebb fan for 28 years, I bought this compilation for one single track: the original “Out of Mind” B-side. Everything else I had spread across the original Alfa Japanese release and a few CD singles,12 inches, 7 inches and promos. It was that one little “Out of Mind” original mix that kept gnawing at me. So I caved. I thought it would be sung like in the Maitresse Mix, which is one of my favorite tracks of theirs if not the best, but it’s just a shorter version of the Spoken Mix which was on the original CD single. Still a good track.I’m glad I now own it, and I was also unaware of the “Rave,” “Rave On,” “Allergic” and “Sneeze” mixes of Fun To Be Had, which are very of their time (i.e. dated and awful.) If you love Nitzer Ebb and are missing a lot from this era, it’s probably worth owning. Clean digital versions of some of the more proper mixes (PK, Barry Adamson, and the incomparable Holger Hiller) make it worth the price. US distributor homogenized afterthought mixes (Dust Brothers and Tony Garcia) less so.Only a few remaining mixes are missing: several dubs and edited George Clinton mixes, which will not be missed; Nitzer Ebb said at the time they paid him £15K and it went “straight up his nose”—Sir Nose?—and now you can hear what his nose sounded like; and the “Kitchen Dub,” “Kitchen Mix Radio Edit” and very rare “Pool Mix Radio Edit” of “Getting Closer” which is a Shame*, because the Pool Mix Radio Edit was the best sounding mix and was released as a promo only. They also didn’t go too cheap on the packaging and Pull A Geffen by printing everything CMYK process. The tri-fold CD sleeve is fluorescent spot color orange, black, and a mix of matte and gloss varnish like the original UK sleeves from that era. No jewel box or Digipak crap plastic spindle to break, just a good cardstock sleeve. But for the price, they could have included a booklet—would liner notes be too much to ask? Maybe a short interview or article about the process and the gear? Their sound is so mysteriously unique, it deserves something like that. And they used Myriad or Frutiger for the song titles on the back instead of Futura like it should have been.* Shame, don’t come back

Null Qualität der Pressung
Miese Pressqualität der LP. Die Platte springt ohne Ende. Das ist nicht erste Platte von Nitzer, die in dieser unterirdischen Qualität ausgeliefert wird.Fazit: FINGER WEG VON DER LP
