How Did I Get to Be Forty: And Other Atrocities (Judith Viorst's Decades) Paperback – Import, 16 June 2012

I found this a disappointment after reading Judith Viorst's brilliant books about becoming 60 and 70, which are so enjoyable.

I've collected Judith's aging books since her first, "It's hard to be hip over 30......" and have her most recent "Nearing 90" Wonderful, insightful, and often funny, but always true as we age. I often give as gifts, which was the purpose of this book.

As a woman over 40, I relate so hard to everything about this little book. It's a treasure I'll always be glad I've discovered. No terrible, horrible, no-good, bad days here. Just laughs, and wincing at hard truths, and affirming nods at the wisdoms here.

I got this as a gift for a nice turning forty and found it inappropriate because when the author was turning forty she had children almost grown, but now a forty year old had a toddler and an infant. Times have changed since Viorst wrote this. The poems suffer from being the too specific to their time. Sad.
