A movie which will always be remembered. A true gem..

Good

Are we really awake and free? How can you be certain about the world, or yourself? Who's really in control and if it's not you, how do you gain control? Using then hyper-advanced filming, one person realises they are not who or where they thought. This is a superb man vs machine movie that in truth is about who we are. The storyline is superb, kicking off an epic struggle to defeat machine domination. The graphics, while much since copied, remain awesome in showing how victim becomes victor, even as the environment changes (see the sequel, Matrix Reloaded). With nods toward Alice in Wonderland, cold war spy and battle movies, this is classic entertainment.

So, this is the Matrix. One of the last great films of the 20th century and one of the most influential of all time, and it still holds up today. Well, mostly.The script utilises the chosen one trope well without feeling too derivative, which is helped by the excellent characterisation and by not making Neo a Gary Stu. Some might call the film's soundtrack dated with its liberal use of songs of the day*, but they all fit the futuristic themes and aesthetics of the film perfectly, much like the cinematography compliments the script at all times.As for faults, there are some strange performances given by many people over the runtime of this film, especially by Hugo Weaving and Belinda McClory, that often flirt dangerously with being poor. Then we have the CGI, which shows its age more with each viewing.Overall, "The Matrix" gets a solid 8/10.*Besides, Rob Zombie and Rage Against the Machine are fantastic. Haters be damned.

Action movie perfection. So ahead of it's time it still holds its own 20 plus years later. Imagine that, I'm re-watching this in 2021 and this movie looks like it could have been made today and is still cool AF.Casting=perfection, action=perfection, dialogue=perfectionThis movie raised the bar so high it escalated and defined a genre. Although it never received the Oscars etc. that it should as 'Action ''Sci-Fi'' Movies' will never be considered trophy worthy. It's legacy has been integrated in to popular culture, parodied and GIF'd the hell out of, and it's one liners will be quoted decades down the line. In fact, I can say with certainty that there will be Matrix moviethons years from now. This movie was made to be seen on the big screen and I know it will be for many years to come. This film needs to be experienced in all of its glory.As I write this a Matrix 4 movie is being shot some 20yrs after the original with both Keanu and Carrie Ann, and although I'm very cautious about revisiting the franchaise, at the same time I am ruddy ecstatic too!

Une révolution visuelle ce Matrix est une grande référence en terme de science-fiction. les frères Wachowski ont dynamité tous les codes de la science-fiction en un blockbuster intelligent aux effets visuels novateurs et percutants. Les mondes virtuel et réel créés de toutes pièces et la cohérence infaillible du scénario sont remarquables, tout comme l’interprétation de Keanu Reeves, tout juste grandiose. Un Mélange S.F Arts martiaux, philosophique relevait du fantasme en 1999 provoquant un véritable séisme dans l’industrie du cinéma. ils l'ont pourtant fait ! L'interprétation des protagonistes est très intéressante, Carrie-Anne Moss est à la fois bad-ass et terriblement sexy dans sa tenue en cuir très moulant, Laurence Fishburn impose le respect et Hugo Weaving est épatant et effrayant. La mise en scène des Wachowski en jette, elle sublime l'action notamment grâce à des ralentis certes câblés mais bien utilisés. l'amalgame parfaite de nombreuses cultures (informatique, mangas, jeux vidéo, arts martiaux, existentialisme) Depuis des années nous nous efforçons à dématérialiser le monde physique qui nous entoure, photos, vidéos, musiques, et ce jusqu’à nos interactions sociales. Sans nous en rendre compte, nous nous téléchargeons, morceau par morceau, sur cet espace virtuel que nous continuons à façonner. L’arrivée des technologies de réalité-virtuelle et réalité-augmentée (VR et AR) introduit de nouvelles interrogations dans ce que nous considérons comme la réalité objective. À travers des expériences sensorielles toujours plus immersives, notamment par le jeu vidéo, il est désormais possible d’entrevoir le cauchemar technologique décrit par les Wachowski. L’histoire de Neo propose alors une métaphore particulièrement adaptée à toutes les thèses affirmant que la réalité est cachée, et ne sera révélée qu’aux seuls « élus » qui font le choix d’affronter la vérité.” Pilule rouge contre pilule bleue, cette vision binaire et simplifiée du monde s’inscrit progressivement dans l’imaginaire populaire. Nous sommes deux ans avant les attentats du World Trade Center, événement fondateur de ce nouveau siècle, qui devient en même temps la théorie matricielle du complotisme contemporain. Avec les pyramides de Gizeh, les illuminati et les reptiliens, c’est autour du 11 septembre que se cristallise la rhétorique complotiste. Paradoxalement, cette quête de dévoilement du monde est enrobée par une couche mystique quasi religieuse. Ce retour aux histoires bibliques et autres récits mythologiques se retrouve dans les milieux conspirationnistes qui flirtent fréquemment avec ésotérisme et religions new age. L’avènement des doctrines matérialistes (capitalisme et socialisme) repousse pour un temps les préoccupations spirituelles, créant un vide légitime dans les aspirations humaines. Les théories du complot séduisent par ce potentiel spirituel qu’elles viennent combler, elles sont les nouvelles religions du XXIe siècle. On pourrait même aller plus loin, et si l’on constate aujourd’hui un fort retour du religieux, il serait intéressant d’analyser de quelle manière Daesh s’est appuyé sur ces codes conspirationnistes pour construire son discours d’endoctrinement. C’est d’ailleurs à travers les réseaux internet que s’est déployé son système de recrutement allant même jusqu’à se réapproprier la figure du hacker en lutte contre l’impérialisme occidental. Matrix nous fait basculer dans un monde parallèle où tout semble possible, mais où tout peut aussi avoir un impact sur la réalité. La force de Matrix réside d’ailleurs ici, car le film se présente comme une vaste allégorie d’une société emprisonnée dans les codes, les routines, la hiérarchie, la technologie et la déshumanisation. C’est ainsi que le film choisit la matrice, sorte d’immense programme informatique dans lequel évoluent des humains dépourvus de libre-arbitre, surveillés par des agents invincibles capables de remplacer n’importe qui selon leur volonté, dans le but de traquer ceux qui ont su se libérer de la soumission pour détruire l’emprise des machines, dans la réalité, et à travers la matrice. Il faut admettre que Matrix a ravivé l’intérêt du public pour la science-fiction. S’inspirant des visions apocalyptiques de Gibson et de Philip K. Dick, les Wachowski apportent une nouvelle dimension à la guerre qui opposera les hommes contre les machines (cf. Terminator) grâce aux multiples références christiques et philosophiques (Neo dit l’Elu cherche sa place dans un monde aseptisé). A cela s’ajoute une touche anarchique séduisante dans laquelle se retrouvent nombre de jeunes spectateurs. Mais là où les Wachowski remplissent parfaitement leur contrat, c’est au niveau visuel. Malgré des moyens financiers sans prétention pour un film de cette ampleur, les Wachowski offrent un feu d’artifice de trouvailles, inspirées des mangas et des jeux vidéo. Ce qui donne 45 minutes de morceaux de bravoure (le hall, l’hélicoptère, le métro) pour une intensité rarement atteinte au cinéma. Certes, ils n’inventent rien, améliorent simplement des techniques déjà existantes, mais leur intégration dans l’univers Matrix est si bien conçue qu’on ne peut que saluer leur intelligence créatrice. Matrix est bien le film définitif qui, malgré les parodies peu flatteuses dont il est la source d’inspiration, a conservé son fabuleux impact vingt-trois ans après sa sortie en salles.

La película llegó a tiempo y en buen estado. La película es genial, sus efectos especiales fueron un parteaguas para todas las futuras películas, las actuaciones son geniales, disfrute verla en audio latino como idioma original, viene con subtítulos, y la imagen es más nítida en 4k.

When I heard that they are re-releasing The Matrix trilogy in 4K UHD with a new Dolby Atmos track I was immensely disappointed to learn that the Atmos soundtrack will be limited only to the 4K set. But that's the case with the rest of the world because thanks to Excel Home Videos, we are getting a separate Blu-ray release here in India, with a new video remaster and the same awesome reference quality Atmos audio. Must must buy.Also I would like to specially thank Excel Group for gifting me a superb James Bond Coffee Table Book with this order. Couldn't be more happy with the team. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers!!Picture Quality - 5/5So I had heard that not only the 4K Blu-ray but also the standard HD Blu-ray is getting a new picture remaster and the results are pure reference grade. The movie mostly consists of Blues and Greens and both these colors are very finely represented, not overdone like the previous editions. The video is sharp and contrast excellent. Skin tones are natural though I felt that the dynamics could do with some improvement. It's definitely a fine upgrade and makes this purchase even more compelling.Audio Quality - 5/5The Matrix has always been the go-to demo disc for showing off your home theater system right since the days of its DVD release. And the new Atmos track takes it to a different level altogether. The level of immersion is outstanding throughout the movie. The lobby shootout sequence, the chopper scene, Trinity's intro in the beginning, the training scenes, the trademark bullet dodging sequence, all make for instant demo material. The rewind button on your remote is going to suffer once you start playing this disc. The rain drops fall on you, the helicopter flying above you and make sure you dodge that bullet otherwise it might hit you. Kudos to the sound engineers at Warner for giving us such aural pleasure through a movie that deserves all the fine detailing it has received in this edition.No matter if you own this movie on DVD, Blu-ray or the complete trilogy, if you are a fan, this edition is a no-brainer. Or better yet, the 4K one if you have the setup.
