Q: I need my sunglasses dark. Are these dark enough?

To be honest they aren't the darkest. Compared to other generic sunglasses I have I would say these are lighter for sure. They do the job but they're noticably not as dark. Hope that helps.

Q: How far does the bridge “opens”?

If you mean how far the clips that go on your glasses open when you squeeze it, nearly half an inch. These have worked really well for me.
