Digitally remastered and expanded three disc (two CD + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) edition of this classic album from Chrissie Hynde and Co. Includes a generous helping of bonus tracks plus a DVD containing promo videos, TV appearances and more. PRETENDERS II was released in August 1981 and leaped straight in to the Top Ten. It was preceded by the Chrissie Hynde-penned hit singles "Talk of the Town" and "Message of Love" and also contained "Day After Day" and another hit version of a Ray Davies song, "I Go to Sleep". The twenty bonus tracks include b-sides, rarities and the entirety of a 15 song concert from the Santa Monica Civic, recorded in September 1981, while the DVD features the four promo videos, along with two BBC TV appearances from Top of the Pops. The booklet in this digipak edition features all the lyrics for the first time, the singles sleeves and photos.

While I much prefer the 1st album, this is a fine follow up and a great sounding version with many extras. Best sounding version, by far.

Pretenders fans will want to update their music/video catalog with this extended collection of songs & videos from Pretenders II
Thoroughly enjoyed group's sophomore effort, of course, but it was interesting to hear a couple of their demos and early live versions of all their hits to that time. Watching their music videos from '81 was a nostalgic experience hearkening back to the very first years of MTV. I recommend to any fan of the Pretenders to update his or her collection with this extended version of Pretenders II.

Worth it for the bonus's but not for the sound quality
Nice enough bonus's but for sound quality pales greatly in comparison to the MFSL. The MFSL sound compared to this set is like comparing night and day. If you really like this album then make room for both this and the MFSL.

This is an excellent package of The Pretenders second album
This is an excellent package of The Pretenders second album. The standard album is there on CD1. And CD2 begins with additional bonus tracks. But what makes this package is the Live Concert from 1981 in Santa Monica. Overall it is an excellent quality recording, with vocals and all 3 musicians well balanced and cutting through in the mix. If, like me, you bemoan the loss of James Honeyman Scott, a true talent on guitar, to find a rare recording of his playing Live, is a genuine treat. And they must have been on fiery form that night. There is also a dvd of various promo videos and BBC recordings to round off what is a well thought out package aimed at the true fans.

VERY Poor quality photos
I was excited to get one of my favourite albums on 180gm vinyl, remasteered. When I took it out of the box, the first obvious thing I noticed was the cover, back cover and inner sleeve photos looked like they were practically photocopied from the originals. REALLY DISAPPOINTING quality. Sonically, it sounds slightly better than my first pressing but the experience from the onset soured the rest. Being that album art is one of core reasons to buy vinyl, it was a complete let down.

Se non lo e', poco vi manca. La forza propulsiva dei primissimi The Pretenders al secondo lavoro e purtroppo anche l' ultimo per il mai troppo compianto J. H-Scott, chitarrista e P. Farndon, il bassista, fondatori del gruppo, che da li a breve dalla pubblicazione,lasceranno le penne per una stupida e banalissima overdose entrambi. Gobilissimo e in confezione monstre che prevede oltre il cd anche un cd dal vivo e un dvd con alcuni video passati su Mtv e compagnia, da possedere e amare. E poi c' e' dentro la meraviglia delle meraviglie dal titolo " I go to sleep", scritta da quel genio di Ray Davies dei Kinks, all' epoca amichetto stretto della divina Cheissie Hynde. Impossibile da non amare.Tempi perfetti al solito Amazon.

Die ersten Pretenders-Scheiben kamen ja anfangs der 80er als LP heraus. Hier bekommt man Nr. II auf CD. Aber nicht nur das, sondern jede Menge Bonus, nämlich Live-Mitschnittte, Demos und eine DVD mit Promos und 2 BBC-Auftritten von 1981. Und wer vom Gesang Chrissie Hynde's keine Gänsehaut bekommt, ist eh tot.

A demi satisfait, d'où la note de 3 étoiles. Le coffret, d'occasion, devait contenir 2 CD et 1 DVD. Le DVD est absent et a été remplacé par un CD provenant de l'édition d'origine de 1990. Le contrôle a donc été mal effectué lors de la reprise de ce coffret.

GREAT ALBUMS with lots of EXTRAS including live cd and tv performance DVD
Great album and nice to have the alternative takes and versions... I have bought several of these 2cd and DVD Pretenders releases from overseas sellers at reduced rate, one being repacked but as new all have been new or as new...You can get many of their early albums on the original albums package 5 for 10.00 but if you are wise with your shopping and prepared to wait you can also get these remastered versions with the cd of extra tracks and in this case many live performances, as well as the bonus DVD that has performances from tv shows that you tend not to find on other DVD collections...love these, especially at reduced price :D
