Very good buy.
Got these for the price. If you are new to working with a lathe these are the chisels you want. No they are not top of the line. They are good chisels and you get 8 of them. As anyone knows that have worked with a lathe you will gravitate to a few chisels more most of your work. This set give you 8 to use and find out which ones you really like so when you do drop the big bucks you and do it on the chisel you really want and not on one that you hardly ever use. So unless you don't care and have to have the best regardless of use this is a great set to start with. I have to mention my favorite scrapper was one of the more poorly put together chisels. The hole was not drilled well so it is cocked to one side. I have to say I like the feel of it. I think of it as the euro grip chisel sine I tend to stand cock to the side also. Anyway, this was a very good buy.

GREAT Starter set!
As many others have mentioned, these are a good set to get started in turning. The set I received was in excellent condition, all cut good enough first time used, the box is solid & straight, no loose handles and none have broken since purchased in Oct 2018. Personally, I don't think I'll need to get one of the really expensive sets, maybe a couple additional/specific chisels as I figure out what I need outside of this set but they have been getting me through thus far. Sharpening is key though. Best to hit them lightly & often to avoid needing heavy sharpening that could throw off the angle. Great buy and value! Pics of projects, not the tools, can see those in product pics!

No they're not as good as your $300 for a single chisel
These are a phenomenal deal. No they're not as good as your $300 for a single chisel, but for the price they are great. If you are starting out, and just need something to learn with, hone your skills with, etc. these are the way to go.REMEMBER!!! - you need to constantly sharpen your chisels, meaning that until you are good at doing that, you will likely mess up once or twice, or a hundred times. So start with something affordable, make your mistakes, and then strive for perfection.

solid, worth the purchase
being a new guy on the Lathe, i didn't want to spend $400-500 on Lathe tools and then realize i didn't want to anymore. these are a great starter set, and really, could a good set for life if treated well! sharp right out of the box, but you may have to sharpen them depending on the wood you are turning. i used it on poplar, and had no issues with the sharpness. i gave 4/5 stars because i did see some discoloring/overheating on the tips for the parting tool and both skew chisels, but being new i could have just been using them wrong. i turned 11 Beer Steins, so you can make your assessments. either way, even with that my project came out better than expected! definitely worth the purchase!UPDATE JULY 11, 2019purchased a good grinding/sharpening kit. tools when sharp are great and can get "streamers" with a finish beyond 220 grit. the negative is the metal is cheap so it overheats quickly and dulls even quicker. just keep your sharpener close by (for touch-up only) and it will still be worth the purchase (i have used these on poplar, cedar, red oak, and water oak)

For The Hobbiest They're Great Tools
Like many of you I've learned from the masters by watching videos, Capt Eddie among my favorites. My wood lathe sat around for awhile, then finally I bought a mini metal lathe and was hooked once I did a few simple things. I started watching woodworking videos again where the wood lathe was being used. At some point I sharpened them up and I began to learn and develop skills. Great hobbie - if you're not a professional, but want tools that can give you professional results, it might not be a bad idea to look into these tools. For many they would be a good starter set, for some a very good starter set. Great way to start the journey.

good enough?
I picked this up as my first set for my lathe, which for the price and as a novice to turning, i'm cool with as I don't need to ruin an expensive tool. That being said, the order shipped and arrived promptly. However, when I opened the box, it appears the rack holding the chisels had broken, the middle bar had fallen off and the bottom rack had some of the peaks snapped off. Not a big deal overall, some super glue and the box should be as good as new. Most of the tools are poorly sharpened, and I would highly recommend touching them up before using them. The 3/16 parting tool was unevenly ground to the point, same story with a couple other tools. Bottom line is you get what you pay for. Not the worst product, definitely not the best, will get the job done though.

Great set of chisels
I've turned a few things with these chisels and have had excellent results. It seemed as though some were sharper than others though. I use the largest roughing gouge the most and it slices right through the wood where the skew chisel seemed to need a sharpening. Overall performance is excellent though, very sturdy, solid tools. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking.

This is a great starter set and definitely gets the job done
This is a great starter set and definitely gets the job done. However, once you try some tools made from better steel you won't go back to these. The bowl gauge snapped unexpectedly about 1" from the cutting edge after around 20 small and medium bowls. I wasn't putting much pressure on it and it snapped well beyond the tool rest so it must have had a micro-fracture in the steel. I reground the break and it is still usable.
